Schedule

The course is structured into three main conceptual units with theoretical lessons held by experts in each subject. Three written exams are foreseen during the course development.

Exam 1 concerns the following moduls: 
  • Tunnel design and construction method (80 hs)
  • Rock Mass Characterization. Geo investigations and risk assessment (60 hs)
  • Tunnel supports (50 hs)
  • Numerical design (30 hs)
Exam 2 concerns the following moduls:
  • General aspects of mechanized tunnelling and Hard Rock TBMs (80 hs)
  • Soil mechanics tunnelling (60 hs)
  • Plants and microtunneling (30 hs)
Exam 3 concerns the following moduls:
  • Contractual and legislative aspects, work sites management, quality (40 hs)
  • Safety and environmental issues of work sites (30 hs)

Finally  as a closure project there will be an Internship of 250 hours that will take place in a construction site or in a tunnelling design company. On the basis of the internship work the student should prepare a written final report that will be discussed in the final examination.
The master coordinator will assign the job site based on a interview with the students.
